Office of Career & Life Design

Career Advising Appointments

The Office of Career & Life Design offers individual consultations virtually or in person, on all academic job application materials for graduate students and postdocs. Advanced degree career advisors provide opportunities to reflect on your skills, interests and values in pursing an academic career, and how to best position your academic accomplishments for specific universities. Appointments can be scheduled in HireUtexas powered by Handshake. Learn more about our advisors on the career advising appointment page linked above.

Center for Teaching and Learning

Academic Job Market Document Consultations

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides one-on-one consultations for academic job market documents related to teaching, including teaching statements, for graduate students and postdocs. Using evidence-based strategies, teaching coaches help craft these materials, allowing writers to reflect on their practices and focus on student learning. Teaching coaches use pedagogical expertise to help writers clearly express their teaching identity and dedication to creating an inclusive environment. During these consultations, we review drafts, offer non-evaluative feedback and suggest self-reflective questions for improvement.

The University Writing Center

Graduate Writing Consultations

The University Writing Center (UWC) provides free programs to support and empower all UT graduate students as readers, writers and communicators. Trained graduate student consultants provide one-on-one feedback on any project at any stage of your writing process. Using a non-directive, non-evaluative approach to writing consulting means we focus on having a conversation about your work and your writing goals.

We offer 45-minute writing appointments to and graduate students at UT Austin. Graduate students can book writing appointments as needed but no more than one per day.
