Nancy H. Carlson, MA is a doctoral student in Organizational Communication and Technology at the Moody College of Communication. Her research primarily focuses on risk, crisis and disaster communication. Specifically, she studies the challenges faced by at-risk Spanish-speaking communities during disasters, with an emphasis on cultural and community engaged practices. 

As part of the Technology and Information Policy Institute research team, Nancy has contributed to projects spanning from flood messaging in the state of Texas to developing educational materials for small business preparedness. Her dissertation explores the role of faith-based organizations and children in disaster preparedness, and she has co-authored articles on disaster preparedness barriers and risk information seeking. Nancy aims to further her professional career in a setting where she can continue to leverage research to achieve innovative and sustainable outcomes.
