Join us for a workshop designed to sharpen your research communication skills. Whether you're preparing for a conference, job talk, or simply want to improve how you present your research, this session has you covered. Learn how to craft engaging, clear scientific presentations that resonate with your audience. You’ll learn the essential elements of a successful talk—from framing your introduction to presenting data and conclusions with impact. By the end of this interactive session, you'll be equipped to deliver your research with confidence and clarity! Lunch will be provided.
Workshop goals:
- Prepare the components of an effective presentation, including Introduction, Body and Conclusion
- Incorporate a story spine into a research talk or elevator pitch
- Practice variations of a compelling hook for an introduction
This workshop is led by Thi (tee) Nguyen, PhD, a storytelling trainer and international speaker who helps researchers to tell their research and career stories. Dr. Nguyen uses interactive and improv-based instruction, and coaching to strengthen scientific communication for scientists at all stages. She has a background in neuroscience research and community education. She also serves as a facilitator for TEDx speakers in St. Louis and has run campus-wide 3MT competitions. Thi is an alumna of UT Austin and earned a PhD from UT Southwestern.
